Today at 8 p.m., the Hollywood Temple Beth El will celebrate “Leyl Tikun,” an evening of cosmic repair, on the first night of Shavuot via Zoom.
The highlights of the celebration will be a sing-a-long of popular Jewish and Israeli songs led by guest Cantor Bryce Emily Megdal and a discussion on classic Jewish sources around the concept of revelation, led by Rabbi Norbert Weinberg.
As it is a virtual celebration, traditional sweet dairy desserts will not be served, but it is recommended that participants bring their favorite sweet desserts to the session in honor of the long-standing Shavuot tradition.
Shavuot, the Feast of Weeks, marks the culmination of seven weeks from the start of Passover, the period of the summer harvest, and, by ancient Jewish tradition, the revelation of teaching at Mt. Sinai. “Leyl Tikun” is an old Kabbalistic term for mystical meditations and studies that were believed to engage the worshipper in an act of healing the universe.
Since the public cannot be together physically, the members of the temple will be hosting the celebration through the internet.
Yizkor Memorial services will also be held on May 30 at 10:30 a.m., as part of the Shabbat Shavuot Service.
