Amoeba Music, the legendary record store, is set to launch its first ever podcast. Starting July 27, “EarWax: an Amoeba Podcast,” covers a weekly deep dive into a beloved but perhaps lesser explored album. Amoeba says its staff-driven wealth of knowledge and grassroots perspective will add a new twist to the music podcast format. For all those who are unable to visit one of the three locations, “EarWax” serves as a new avenue for all music lovers to experience a piece of the Amoeba record store experience.

“EarWax” is hosted by long-time Amoebites Hilary Miller and Cody Tinsley, who will discuss new releases and in-store events.

“I learn something new pretty much every day working at Amoeba,” Tinsley said. “I’d love to convey that sense of community and sharing to folks who find Amoeba via the podcast world.”

In each week’s episode, the hosts tell the story of one particular album. How was it made? Where does it exist in our history? What effect did it have then, and how does it affect us today? Chatting with the knowledgeable Amoeba staff is an integral part of coming to the shop and “EarWax” hopes to touch on that same feeling.

“Our greatest asset is our staff. It’s their love and enthusiasm for music and the arts that drives the connections with our customers and creates the rich and unique experience that is shopping at Amoeba,” co-owner Jim Henderson said.

“EarWax” is simply two longtime record store clerks doing what they do best – learning about and sharing the stories behind the albums people love. While there is a large amount of discourse about music, “EarWax” is a destination for old heads and newcomers to share in the rich history left behind by the records we may think we know.
