Rapper Tyler Okonma, of the group “Odd Nation”, was arrested for felony vandalism after performing at The Roxy Theatre on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood on Dec. 22.
According to police, West Hollywood Sheriff’s Department deputies were contacted at about 11:30 p.m. by security guards, who said Okonma, also known as “Tyler, the Creator”, had destroyed an electronic soundboard belonging to the venue.
When Okonma exited The Roxy, he was apprehended by sheriff’s deputies. As he was being escorted to a nearby radio car, the crowd exiting the venue became angry and rushed into the street toward the deputies. The deputies requested assistance as the crowd became unruly.
Units from the Universal Substation, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Aero Bureau and the Beverly Hills Police Department responded and assisted deputies in dispersing the crowd. Sunset Boulevard was closed between Doheny Drive and San Vicente Boulevard for approximately 30 minutes. No deputies or civilians were injured, and there were no other arrests.
Okonma was transported to West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station, where he was booked for the vandalism charge. He was charged with felony vandalism due to the value of the electronic soundboard.
