Divisions in the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Bureau will compete for the most blood donations for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center during a blood drive at six police stations.
Members of the public are invited to donate blood on Thursday, Aug. 25 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the LAPD’s Hollywood Division, 1358 N. Wilcox Ave., and on Monday, Aug. 29 from 3:30 to 5 p.m.at the LAPD’s Pacific Division, 12312 Culver Blvd. Blood drives will be held at the LAPD’s Wilshire and West Traffic Divisions on Aug. 31, but are open only to personnel from the police stations. The other participating police stations are the West Los Angeles and Olympic Divisions.
The division that collects the most units will be treated to a luncheon by Cedars-Sinai’s Blood Donor Services. Last year, the competition yielded 126 units of blood, enough to help approximately 250 people. The winning honors went to the Hollywood Division.
A single blood donation, which takes roughly 10 minutes, can help save the lives of two people. Each year, Cedars-Sinai patients receive transfusions using more than 30,000 units of red blood cells, 7,000 units of platelets and 11,000 units of plasma.
