The UCLA Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for Israel Studies has signed a five-year memorandum of understanding with The Hebrew University of Jerusalem to pursue joint academic activities.
UCLA Chancellor Julio Frenk and Hebrew University President Tamir Sheafer signed the agreement on Sept. 22 at UCLA.
The memorandum establishes a framework for cooperation between the Nazarian Center, which is part of the UCLA International Institute, and the Jerusalem university. Potential activities include faculty and scholar visits, teaching and research collaborations, postgraduate education and training, joint conferences, academic information exchanges and graduate and professional student exchanges.
The institutions may also pursue joint research programs. Specific projects will require separate agreements and will depend on the availability of funding, space and resources, according to UCLA.
“I am delighted that with this MOU, the Nazarian Center and The Hebrew University of Jerusalem signal their formal intent to work together on a broad variety of mutually beneficial academic activities,” Nazarian Center Director and UCLA professor Steven E. Zipperstein said.
The memorandum will remain in effect for five years.
