A Florida woman accused of opening fire on Rihanna’s Beverly Crest home in March has been indicted on attempted murder and other felony charges, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced on Sept. 30.
Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, 36, of Orlando, Florida, was indicted on one count of attempted murder, 10 felony counts of assault with an assault weapon and three felony counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling or camper.
Ortiz pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to return to court on Oct. 29 for a pretrial hearing at the Foltz Criminal Justice Center. Her bail was set at $2.65 million. The indictment was returned on June 18 and unsealed on Sept. 30.
Prosecutors allege that at approximately 1:20 p.m. on March 8, Ortiz drove to Rihanna’s home in the 9500 block of Heather Road and fired multiple rounds from a semiautomatic rifle at the residence.
Rihanna and her husband, rapper A$AP Rocky, their children and several other people were on the property or inside an adjacent home at the time. No one was struck by the gunfire.
Ortiz was later arrested in Sherman Oaks.
“Every person deserves to feel safe in and around their home,” Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said. “Shooting at an occupied home is a serious, violent crime that is both reckless and dangerous. It is pure luck and not a matter of restraint that no one was killed or injured.”
Ortiz was initially charged shortly after the shooting and had been held on $1.8 million bail. The indictment increases her bail to $2.65 million.
Ortiz faces up to life in state prison.
The case is being prosecuted by Alexander Bott of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office Major Crimes Division and remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division.
