The city of West Hollywood continues the 2026 WeHo Reads literary series with events on Wednesdays, Sept. 23, Oct. 14 and Nov. 4, featuring writers of historical fiction and poetry, queer fantasy and young adult authors and disrupters who are not afraid to question the status quo.
WeHo Reads: Reimagining History, will take place on Sept. 23 at 6:30 p.m. in the West Hollywood Library Community Meeting Room, 625 N. San Vicente Blvd. The event features four writers committed to telling stories that examine history from new perspectives. Questions explored will include, “Why do we keep returning to history?” and “what changes when we recover what was buried, silenced or forgotten?” The participating writers are Kate Maruyama, a professor of writing and an author of realist and fabulist novels, short stories and essays; Steven Reigns, an author, poet and educator who was the inaugural West Hollywood City Poet Laureate of West Hollywood; Mike Sonksen, also known as Mike the PoeT, a poet, professor, journalist, historian and tour guide; and Désirée Zamorano, author of the historical fiction novel “Dispossessed” and the collection of short stories “Amarisa’s Cooking Pot.” West Hollywood City Poet Laureate Jen Cheng will open the event with a poem reading.
WeHo Reads: Into the Unknown will take place on Oct. 14 at 6:30 p.m. online via Zoom and YouTube. Five queer fantasy and young adult authors venture into imagined realms that are cozy, macabre, sweeping and strange. Their books conjure witches and spells, alternate universes and heroes who have rarely seen themselves at the center of the story. The event features Georgia K. Boone, author of the critically acclaimed novel “And Other Mistakes” and “When We Almost Came Undone”; Kiri Callaghan, a best-selling author of sapphic fantasy fiction; Lizzy Ives, author of “Fat Witch Summer” and “Thick Witch Travels”; C.B. Lee, a New York Times bestselling author of young adult and fiction doe middle-graders; and Shelly Page, author of “Brewed with Love” and “Charmed and Dangerous.”
WeHo Reads: No Apologies will be held on Nov. 4 at 6:30 p.m. online via Zoom and YouTube.
