Vintage neon Miracle Mile signs modeled after ones that were formerly located on the Wilshire Boulevard medians at both ends of the historic district are returning to the boulevard.
One of the signs was installed on the south side of Wilshire Boulevard just west of Fairfax Avenue, and a second is planned for the eastern side near Highland Avenue. The original Miracle Mile neon signs at the eastern and western gateways to the Miracle Mile were first installed in the 1930s. Recreations of the historic signs were installed in the 2000s but were later destroyed after being struck by vehicles.
The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority previously announced the decorative signs would return after the D Line Subway project was completed through the area.
“Miracle Mile is back. These neon signs have welcomed people to the neighborhood for generations, and seeing them installed on Wilshire again is a small but meaningful reminder of what makes this part of Los Angeles so special,” Councilwoman Katy Yaroslavsky, 5th District, said.
