Mariachi Tierra Mia will bring “Mariachi Meets The Smiths” to The Ford on Sept. 27, reimagining songs by the Manchester band through the sound and traditions of mariachi.
The concert will feature selections from across The Smiths’ catalog performed by Los Angeles mariachi musicians, along with a set by DJ Manny Fresco. The program draws on the band’s longstanding popularity in Mexico and among generations of Latino fans.
The Smiths, formed in Manchester in the 1980s, developed an international following through albums including “Meat Is Murder” and “The Queen Is Dead.” Their music has maintained a particularly strong following in Mexico, where the band’s songs have remained part of popular music culture decades after the group disbanded.
“Mariachi Meets The Smiths” brings that connection to Los Angeles by pairing the band’s melodies and lyrics with mariachi arrangements. Mariachi Tierra Mia will perform familiar songs from The Smiths’ discography using the instrumentation and performance traditions associated with mariachi music.
The evening will also include DJ Manny Fresco, whose set will bridge musical styles and generations.
The performance is part of The Ford’s 2026 season and is supported in part by the Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture.
The Ford is located at 2580 Cahuenga Blvd. E.
Tickets are available at theford.com or by calling (323)850-2000.
