Re “LAUSD Board supports community school parks,” Sept. 24 issue
As an LAUSD student who has taught robotics at the YMCA, I read this story thinking about the families who would use these spaces. Although I thought the news article was great, in my time at the YMCA, some parents couldn’t bring their children to our weekday classes because they were working, so when I added Saturday sessions, more students ended up participating.
The article explains who provides the facilities and who handles supervision and maintenance. I would also like to know where families will find participating campuses and opening hours. How will schedule changes be communicated? Who can parents contact about accessibility?
My experience was with a robotics program, not school parks but still, changing our schedule taught me that it can really impact how these families participate. Additionally, how will this partnership find out which hours work for nearby families, including those who aren’t already involved?
