The Drunk Shakespeare Society will make its Los Angeles debut with “Drunk Dracula,” running from Sept. 11-Nov. 14 at The Hotel Cafe in Hollywood.
The production launches a planned multi-show Hollywood residency for the theatrical company, which has staged productions in New York, Chicago, Phoenix, Houston and Washington, D.C.
The company’s format combines theater, improvisation and audience participation, with one performer consuming five shots of alcohol before joining sober cast members in performing an adaptation of a classic literary work. “Drunk Dracula” applies the format to Bram Stoker’s vampire story.
Scott Griffin and Hudson founded Drunk Shakespeare in 2014. The company began with Shakespeare’s works and has since expanded its productions to other works of classic literature.
The company said performers follow drinking guidelines and are monitored during and after performances. Transportation is provided to performers each night. Audience members are not required to consume alcohol.
The Hotel Cafe is located at 1623 1/2 N. Cahuenga Blvd.
