Generations of Beverly Hills High School alumni returned to campus Sept. 4 for the inaugural Back to Beverly, a Beverly Hills Unified School District initiative designed to reconnect graduates with the school.
More than 20 alumni participated in the first tour, representing graduating classes spanning nearly four decades, from 1968 through 2007. The group included 10 members of the class of 1974, who returned together to see changes to their former campus and revisit familiar locations.
Back to Beverly was launched by Beverly Hills Unified School District Board of Education President Judy Manouchehri, a BHHS alumna and former Associated Student Body president.
“This is exactly what we hoped Back to Beverly would be,” Manouchehri said. “Watching alumni walk through campus, share their memories and experience everything that is new at Beverly was incredibly special. No matter how much this campus changes, there is a connection to Beverly that stays with you. We want our alumni to know they will always have a place here.”
During the tour, alumni explored newly completed and modernized spaces throughout the campus, including the K.L. Peters Auditorium, Salter Family Theatre, Grand Lawn, new classrooms, Command Center and athletic facilities. They also returned to areas of the school familiar to generations of graduates.
Participants learned about academic and career pathways currently available to BHUSD students and visited the BHHS Alumni Hall of Fame, which recognizes former students and their accomplishments.
The district created Back to Beverly to strengthen connections between alumni, the school and current generations of students. BHUSD plans to explore opportunities for alumni to participate in mentorship, career experiences, classroom visits and other programs involving current students.
Additional Back to Beverly tours are scheduled throughout the school year, with more dates expected to be announced. BHHS alumni can view upcoming dates and register at bhusd.org/backtobeverly.
