Antisemitic graffiti scrawled on an electrical box near Wilshire Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue was quickly removed on Sept. 24 by an employee of the Petersen Automotive Museum.
The museum’s facilities director Juan Estrada said crew members routinely take steps to ensure the surrounding area remains clean. It was unknown how long the graffiti was on the electrical box.
“We go around the building every day and any graffiti we see, we cover it up as soon as we can,” Estrada said. “It was bad, so we decided to remove it right away and painted over it.”
Senior Lead Officer Andrew Jones, of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Wilshire Division, said police did not receive a report about the graffiti, and stressed the importance of reporting all hate incidents so police can document them.
“Any incidents that get reported all get followed up on, canvassed for video and [there is an] attempt to locate any follow up information,” he said, adding that police in the Wilshire area periodically investigate antisemitic graffiti.
To report hate graffiti or a hate incident to the Wilshire Division, call (213)473-0476. Graffiti removal is conducted by different city contractors, and residents are encouraged to report graffiti using 311. In the Miracle Mile, Fairfax District and Beverly Grove, they may also report graffiti by calling the field office of Los Angeles City Councilwoman Katy Yaroslavsky, 5th District, at (323)866-1828.
In Hollywood, call the field office of Councilman Hugo Soto-Martinez at (213)473-7013, which can help coordinate cleanup operations.
