The Hammer’s fall season features an international lineup of exhibitions, led by two major retrospectives: Huguette Caland’s “A Life in a Few Lines” and Mavis Pusey’s “Mobile Images.”
On view from Sept. 27 to Feb. 28, Caland’s “A Life in a Few Lines” presents nearly 150 drawings, sculptures, textiles and other ephemera. Lebanese by birth, French by marriage and American by choice, Caland’s sensual and vibrant works return to Los Angeles, where she spent the last decades of her life and engaged with leading artists.
From Oct. 11 to Feb. 28, the Hammer presents the first major West Coast museum survey for Jamaican-born abstract artist Pusey. With over 60 works from a 50-year career, Pusey’s “Mobile Images” highlights the artist’s rich geometric abstractions, reflecting her wide-ranging engagement with fashion, printmaking and the urban environment.
The Hammer will host a special event on Saturday, Oct. 10, at 8 p.m. to celebrate the new fall season of exhibitions, including Caland’s and Pusey’s works as well as new Hammer Projects from artists Vibeke Mascini and Gê Viana. Guests can explore galleries after hours with late-night access, and enjoy DJ Shay Elys spinning music in the museum’s courtyard.
The event is free and open to the public. RSVP does not guarantee entry if the event reaches capacity. Admission is granted on a first-come, first-served basis. Hammer Museum members get priority entry starting at 7:30 p.m.
The Hammer Museum is located at 10899 Wilshire Blvd. For information and to RSVP, visit hammer.ucla.edu.
