The Los Angeles Philharmonic will present Herbie Hancock Celebrates Miles Davis, an all-star concert honoring the centennial of the influential jazz trumpeter and composer, on Wednesday, Aug. 19, at 8 p.m. at the Hollywood Bowl.

Led by Grammy Award-winning pianist and composer Herbie Hancock, who serves as the LA Phil’s creative chair for jazz, the one-night-only performance will bring together musicians closely connected to Davis and his musical legacy.

Hancock, who performed as a member of Miles Davis’ celebrated Second Great Quintet during the 1960s, will be joined by bassist Ron Carter, another member of that influential ensemble, and bassist Marcus Miller, who produced Davis’ 1986 album “Tutu.”

The concert will also feature Grammy Award-winning trumpeter and composer Terence Blanchard, saxophonist Kenny Garrett, bassist Christian McBride and conductor and arranger Vince Mendoza. Collectively, the featured artists have earned 45 Grammy Awards.

The program will span Davis’ groundbreaking career, including music inspired by his collaborations with arranger Gil Evans on the albums “Miles Ahead” and “Porgy and Bess.” The performance will also revisit Davis’ influential late-1960s acoustic quartet and his later fusion period.

The concert is presented by the Los Angeles Philharmonic and supported by Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts in association with 88.1 KJAZZ.
