Wilshire Boulevard Temple is opening applications on Aug. 3 for Choosing Judaism, a 13-week course for those exploring conversion to Judaism or seeking a deeper understanding of Jewish life.
The fall cohort begins on Friday, Oct. 23, at the Glazer Campus on Wilshire Boulevard. The spring cohort begins on Friday, Feb. 5, at the Resnick Family Campus in Brentwood.
Choosing Judaism is designed as an accessible and immersive pathway into Jewish learning, community and practice. Participants study Jewish history, texts, holidays, prayer, traditions and culture while building relationships with clergy, classmates and the broader Temple community. The program combines classroom learning with lived Jewish experience, including Shabbat gatherings, holiday celebrations and opportunities to participate in Temple life.
“At Wilshire Boulevard Temple, we believe Judaism is not only inherited, it can also be chosen,” Rabbi Leah Lewis said. “Whether someone is exploring conversion or seeking a deeper connection to Jewish life, we are committed to creating a welcoming space for learning, reflection and belonging.”
The course welcomes people from a range of backgrounds. Some participants come through love and family, some are spiritual seekers, some are reclaiming ancestral roots, and others are drawn to Jewish values, learning, justice, ritual and community. The program is open to those considering conversion, as well as those who are not certain where their exploration will lead.
For some, the journey culminates in conversion. For others, it offers a way to better understand a Jewish partner, family member or heritage. All participants are invited to encounter Judaism not only as a subject to study, but as a living tradition and community to experience.
Wilshire Boulevard Temple’s Glazer Campus is located at 3663 Wilshire Blvd. The Resnick Family Campus is located at 11960 Sunset Blvd. For information, email Maya Rigler at mrigler@wbtla.org, or visit wbtla.org/jewish-life/conversion.
