Temple Israel of Hollywood has appointed Rabbi Mark Miller as its next senior rabbi, effective July 1, as the Reform Jewish congregation marks its centennial year.
The leadership transition comes as the congregation celebrates 100 years of Jewish worship, education and community service. Temple Israel of Hollywood said Miller will lead the congregation into its second century while continuing its focus on spiritual growth, education, social justice, support for Israel and congregational life.
“Temple Israel of Hollywood has built a national reputation for excellence in spiritual practice, commitment to social justice, and a strong relationship with Israel,” Miller said. “Our family left L.A. nearly 20 years ago, and I am deeply honored by the opportunity to return home and join the magnificent clergy and staff team at TIOH. As I continue getting to know the people who make up this wonderful community, I am eager to share the gifts of our Jewish tradition and find new ways to bring a bit more holiness into our lives and our world.”
Miller most recently served for 12 years as senior rabbi at Temple Beth El in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. He earned undergraduate degrees in psychology and history from Northwestern University and received rabbinic ordination from Hebrew Union College.
“Rabbi Miller joins us at an exciting and meaningful moment in our institution’s history,” Stephanie Bressler, president of Temple Israel of Hollywood’s board of trustees, said. “As we step into our next 100 years, I cannot imagine a better leader to guide Temple Israel of Hollywood with vision, warmth, and purpose, while continuing to strengthen our role as a vibrant force in the Los Angeles Jewish community.”
Founded in 1926, Temple Israel of Hollywood is among the oldest Reform Jewish congregations in Los Angeles. The congregation operates three schools and offers religious, educational and community programming. Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary, a service of Temple Israel of Hollywood, also serves families throughout the Los Angeles area.
Temple Israel of Hollywood is located at 7300 Hollywood Blvd.
