California Credit Union Foundation is supporting innovative classroom programs through the spring 2026 Teacher Grant program.
The foundation awarded 18 grants of $500 each to fund classroom projects, among them the Home Connection Backpacks program initiated by teacher Monika Duque, of Rosewood STEM Magnet, Urban Planning & Urban Design. The grant will be used at Rosewood to fund mini backpacks-tote bags containing stuffed animals, dolls, games, math exercises, journals and books for first grade students to take home to share with their families.
“It was really exciting for her to receive the grant. We are very proud of her,” Rosewood STEM Magnet Principal Lina Kaye-Crowder said. “For our teachers, a lot of what they do comes out of their own pockets. This was something Mrs. Duque has been longing for because it reinforces literacy. We are always looking for that extra money to be able to do more for the students, and to find partners out there willing to provide grants is wonderful.”
“What makes this program so meaningful is the creativity and intention behind each of these projects,” California Credit Union Foundation President Marvel Ford said. “From hands-on STEM experiences to programs that build connection and inclusion, these teachers are finding new ways to engage their students and bring learning to life. We’re proud to support their ideas and the lasting impact they have in the classroom.”
