Writers Bloc and The Ebell of Los Angeles will present “Patti Smith: An Evening of Songs and Stories,” featuring the acclaimed musician, poet and author discussing her new memoir, “Bread of Angels,” alongside live music on Monday, Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m.
Described as Smith’s most personal memoir, “Bread of Angels” traces her life from her teenage years, when poetry, music and artists such as Arthur Rimbaud and Bob Dylan first inspired her creative pursuits, through her career as one of rock music’s most influential voices. The book also explores her marriage to musician Fred “Sonic” Smith, their family life in Michigan and her return to writing after experiencing a series of personal losses.
The program will combine conversation and music, with Smith joined onstage by her son, musician Jackson Smith, and longtime collaborator Tony Shanahan. Together, they will perform selections that complement the stories and themes explored in the memoir.
Each ticket includes a copy of “Bread of Angels,” which attendees must pick up at the event. Books will not be shipped or held after the program.
The Ebell of Los Angeles is located at 743 S. Lucerne Ave.
