The Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, Los Angeles Lotus Festival, Inc. and the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka present the 45th Lotus Festival, a celebration of the people, culture and heritage of Sri Lanka, on Saturday, July 11, and Sunday, July 12.

A VIP reception begins at 11:30 a.m. on July 11, followed by an opening ceremony at noon. The festivities also begin at noon on July 12.

Originating in 1972, the Lotus Festival is one of the city’s largest cultural festivals. It honors and celebrates the diverse Asian and Pacific Islander communities in L.A. with dynamic performances, art, cuisine and family-friendly activities.

The opening ceremony includes local leaders, traditional blessings and a celebration of Sri Lankan culture. Non-stop entertainment will showcase traditional and modern Sri Lankan cultural expressions, from ancient Kandyan dance forms to contemporary musical performances.

The Dragon Boat Races also return on Echo Park Lake. Watch eight-member teams from community groups, corporations and city departments battle it out on the water.

Additionally, visitors can enjoy the Lights of Dreams Festival, a breathtaking evening experience featuring a captivating light display illuminating Echo Park Lake in a tribute to hope and community. Attendees can sample authentic Sri Lankan cuisine and purchase artisan crafts. A beer garden and interactive booths are included.

Admission to the festival is free. A nominal fee will be charged for food, craft items, clothing and merchandise. Echo Park Lake is located at 751 Echo Park Ave. For information, visit laparks.org/lotusfestival.
