Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman was joined by law enforcement partners and FIFA officials on June 1 to update the public on safety measures ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scheduled to begin next week.

Tens of thousands of fans are expected in the Los Angeles area as part of the international football tournament held in 16 cities across North America, covering more than five weeks.

“Los Angeles is ready to shine on the world’s biggest stage, inviting people from every corner of the world to celebrate this once-in-a-generation event,” Hochman said. “Our No. 1 and most important goal is to keep everyone safe. Toward that end, we are joining fellow local, state and federal law enforcement partners to send an unmistakably clear message to those looking to commit crimes during these games: bad choices could land you a red card and a one-way ticket to watch the games from the inside of a jail.”

“As we welcome the world to our region, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department stands ready,” Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said. “We have prepared extensively alongside our local, state, federal and international partners to ensure a safe and secure environment for spectators attending matches and fan events. While we want everyone to enjoy this historic experience, we will not tolerate criminal activity and will act swiftly to protect our communities and visitors. We are ready to help make these games a safe and memorable experience.”

“Our agencies are united in ensuring a safe and memorable World Cup, and anyone who seeks to disrupt that will be held fully accountable,” Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell added. “Celebrate responsibly and report suspicious activity – the information you provide matters.”

Law enforcement agencies urge the public to report human trafficking, hate crimes, counterfeit tickets or merchandise and scams targeting the public.

Check venue rules at Los Angeles Stadium (SoFi Stadium), bag restrictions and prohibited items such as weapons, fireworks and other incendiary devices before arrival.  Guard against petty theft in crowds and keep IDs and valuables protected in a bag or pocket. Always buy tickets only through official FIFA channels
