A construction flagger was killed in an accident at the One Beverly Hills construction site on June 2, according to Turner Construction and Cain International, the firm behind the luxury real estate development.

A report from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as 57-year-old Rodrigo Mancilla Torres. The report listed multiple blunt traumatic injuries as the cause of death and ruled the manner of death an accident.

“On June 2, a tragic accident occurred in which a construction flagger was struck by a truck. Our personnel, onsite medical team and emergency services responded immediately. Despite those efforts, the flagger was pronounced deceased at the scene,” a joint statement from Turner Construction and Cain International read. “We extend our deepest sympathies to the flagger’s family, loved ones, friends and colleagues during this difficult time. We continue to work closely with authorities as they investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.”

The statement added that the project site was closed in the days following the incident.

Beverly Hills Police Department Lt. Kevin Orth confirmed that the department responded to the scene of the fatal accident. An investigation is ongoing.

Torres’ family launched a GoFundMe campaign to return his remains to his hometown of Colima, Mexico, and cover funeral expenses.

“Rodrigo was a loving father, grandfather, son, brother and friend whose kindness, strength and hard work touched the lives of everyone who knew him,” the GoFundMe page read. “He dedicated his life to providing for his family and always put others before himself. His love, guidance and presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.”

The campaign raised approximately $22,000 of its $25,000 goal by June 17.
