While the first segment of Metro’s D Line subway extension project is open to Wilshire/La Cienega, crews are completing final street restoration work around the subway station, and work continues on sections two and three of the new subway line in Beverly Hills, Century City and Westwood.
Gutter and curb ramp replacement continues along Wilshire Boulevard between Stanley Drive and San Vicente Boulevard. Curb ramps at Stanley/Wilshire and Le Doux/Wilshire are being replaced. Curb ramps at 8484 Wilshire Blvd. may be replaced with current code-compliant ramps in May. Surface demolition at 8383 Wilshire Blvd. may also start this month, pending approvals. To facilitate the work, Wilshire Boulevard may be reduced to one or two lanes.
Wilshire and La Cienega boulevards and segments of adjoining side streets will be repaved this summer, with dates to be announced. The repaving will require a series of weekend closures.
In Beverly Hills, work continues on the Beverly Drive subway station. K-rail enclosures remain in place in May along the north and south curb lanes of Wilshire Boulevard to support station construction and street restoration. Two lanes remain open in each direction along Wilshire Boulevard between Beverly and Crescent drives. Left turns are restricted from westbound Wilshire Boulevard to South Cañon Drive.
Through June 26, sidewalk restoration continues on Wilshire Boulevard between Cañon and Crescent drives. Curb, gutter and underground electrical work is ongoing along the south side of Wilshire Boulevard between Cañon and Reeves drives. Sidewalk closures will be implemented around the work zones. Pedestrian access to 9420 Wilshire Blvd. will be maintained.
Through Monday, May 18, the AKA alley between North Cañon and North Crescent drives will be closed for improvement work including demolition and removal of existing asphalt, concrete and base sections, base preparation, fine grading and asphalt paving. The work will run from 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Construction is also ongoing around the Century City station. Through Nov. 11, the north sidewalk of Constellation Boulevard from Avenue of the Stars to the Westfield Mall ADA ramp will remain closed. Crews are building underground appendage structures, which are rooms and passageways adjacent to the main station. Access to the ADA ramp will be maintained just east of the crosswalk at Solar Way. Driveway access on Constellation Boulevard to the Westfield shopping mall and 1999 Avenue of the Stars will remain open during the work.
Construction on the future Westwood/UCLA Station is also ongoing in UCLA Lot 36. Temporary lane closures may be required for workers to access the site. The work, which continues through June 30, includes hauling, utility removal, material delivery, concrete pouring and backfilling excavations.
Traffic lane closures may be implemented around the Westwood/UCLA Station. Westbound Wilshire Boulevard may be closed between Westwood Boulevard and Veteran Avenue, and crosswalks may be closed in the surrounding area.
Work at the Westwood/VA Hospital Station – the final station on the D Line – includes concrete pouring for exterior walls and roof slabs, and steel bracing removal, waterproofing and installation of mechanical, electrical and plumbing equipment. The work is ongoing in Lot 42 on the VA campus and a staging yard west of Bonsall Avenue.
