The Mid City West Neighborhood Council elected a new at-large member to its executive board during a virtual meeting on May 12.

Four people – Robert Shore, Liliana Cohen, Parker Gootkin and Charles Lindenblatt – applied for the open seat and spoke briefly to the executive board before a vote was taken. Cohen received 15 votes, Shore and Lindenblatt each received two votes and Gootkin received no votes. Two board members abstained from voting.

The Mid City West Neighborhood Council’s executive board consists of 36 members. On May 12, the board barely made quorum. Numerous members had been granted absences. The two members who declined to vote did not state why they abstained.

Cohen, a board-certified neurologist, was sworn in immediately afterward. She was enthusiastic about getting started and being more involved.

“I live in the community on Fuller and I’m a physician. I would like to contribute to making the neighborhood safer for everybody,” Cohen said. “I have patients that live in the community also. It’s cleaner streets and better roads, anything that I can do to help the community. I am proud to be a member of the community and live in that neighborhood.”

The neighborhood council serves as a liaison between the community and city government, considering land use issues and development projects, as well as a quality of life issues in neighborhoods. The MCWCC’s boundaries are approximately Olympic and San Vicente boulevards to the south, the Beverly Hills and West Hollywood borders to the west, the West Hollywood border to the north and La Brea Avenue to the east.

MCWCC executive board chair Brent Kidwell said two additional seats are likely to open soon, as at least two members are considering leaving. Residents and stakeholders interested in serving on the board are encouraged to email board@midcitywest.org or visit midcitywest.org.
