The Stephen S. Wise Temple Children’s Choir sang at the opening of the Los Angeles Holocaust Memorial in Pan Pacific Park in this photograph in the April 30, 1992, issue of the Beverly Press and Park Labrea News. Nearly 1,000 people gathered at the opening ceremony, which included remarks by U.S. Rep. Tom Lantos, the only Holocaust survivor to serve in United States Congress, as well as Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley and Los Angeles County Supervisor Ed Edelman. The Holocaust Memorial was a public-private partnership conceived 20 years earlier by survivors living in the surrounding Fairfax community. The memorial is located in the northern section of Pan Pacific Park, also home to Holocaust Museum L.A. The museum is currently undergoing construction and plans to reopen in June.
