Congregations throughout Los Angeles County will gather this weekend for Easter services. At St. Victor Catholic Church, located at 8634 Holloway Drive in West Hollywood, an Easter vigil will be held on Saturday, April 4, at 7 p.m., with three Sunday services on April 5 at 8:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
“Easter celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,” St. Victor pastor Rev. John-Paul Gonzalez said. “By his resurrection, he gives us a share in eternal life. There is a transformative power in the resurrection. It is a living reality for Christians that calls us to live in love, forgiveness and faith.”
All Saints’ Beverly Hills will conduct its Easter Festival Eucharist at both 9 and 11 a.m. on April 5. The second service will be followed by an Easter egg hunt. All Saints’ is located at 504 N. Camden Drive.
“At All Saints’, we offer a sacred and inclusive space for all to come, just as they are, with their doubts, questions and hearts,” Very Rev. Gary Hall said. “We are an inclusive and welcoming community where everyone is accepted, no matter where you are on your faith journey. Whether you are familiar with our community or this is your first time, we invite you to join us this Easter. Here, you will find a place where the eternal love of God is present, sustaining each one of us and offering renewal. We walk together in a tradition of ancient worship, surrounded by uplifting sacred music and prayers.”
Rev. Drew Stever will lead the 10:30 a.m. service on Sunday, April 5, at Hope Lutheran Church in Hollywood, located at 6720 Melrose Ave.
“Folks are invited to wear their favorite ‘Easter bonnet’ and are encouraged to get creative in making their own,” Stever said. “This is part of our celebration of Jesus’ defeat over death. Easter is important for that reason – not only did he come through death, he took on all of the world’s anger, fear, hate, sorrow, despair and injustice and turned them into freedom, peace, love and compassion. We are called to live into the message in our own lives by meeting the stranger as friend, loving our enemy and working for peace.”
Stever added that, in a period where “headlines are so frequently telling … stories of destruction and isolation… it is important to remember this Easter that creation and connection are still in the midst of these stories, emerging in new and surprising ways.”
“We can only see and recognize the new life around and within us when we have gone through death, so the crucifixion cannot be ignored,” he said.
First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood, located at 1760 Gower St., will hold a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. on April 2, a Good Friday service at 7 p.m. on April 3 and an Easter service on April 5 at 11 a.m.
The Church of the Good Shepherd in Beverly Hills, located at 504 N. Roxbury Drive, will have a Holy Thursday service at 7:30 p.m. on April 2, Good Friday services at noon, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on April 3, an Easter vigil at 8 p.m. on April 4 and Sunday mass on April 5 at 10 a.m. and noon.
The First Baptist Church of Beverly Hills, located at 9025 Cynthia St. in West Hollywood, will hold its April 5 sunrise service at 7 a.m., followed by a doughnuts and coffee fellowship at 8 a.m., small groups at 9:30 a.m. and its regular worship service at 10:30 a.m.
Hollywood United Methodist Church, located at 6817 Franklin Ave., will have its Easter service at 11 a.m. on April 5.
All Saint’s Rev. Hall said that Easter “offers … a grounding reminder of [the] changeless, eternal love of God.”
“This season invites us to walk a sacred path, from the solemnity of Good Friday to the joy of Easter Sunday,” Hall said. “Joining in this journey through worship, music and prayer offers us a deep sense of peace, connection and community during uncertain times and provides an opportunity to rest in God’s enduring love, which remains constant no matter the challenges we face.”
