At the April 21 Beverly Hills City Council meeting, Beverly Hills High School students Janice Moon and Naomi Yasui were formally recognized for their exceptional work in the Community Services Commissions Internship Program, a collaboration between the city of Beverly Hills and the Beverly Hills Unified School District.

This recognition highlights a historic first for BHUSD. The Community Services Commissions Internship Program represents a new model of partnership between the city and the school district, giving students the opportunity to contribute directly to municipal operations and community programming. It reflects a new standard for what is possible when schools and local government work together with intention and shared vision.

Through the program, students gain hands-on experience by participating in commission processes, supporting staff and developing real-world projects that benefit the community. Naomi Yasui served as a Community Services Commission intern with the Arts and Culture Commission, while Janice Moon served with the Recreation and Parks Commission.

Their work reflects the excellence of BHUSD students. It highlights leadership, initiative and a clear ability to apply learning in real-world settings.

“This recognition reflects what makes Beverly Hills exceptional,” BHUSD Board President Judy Manouchehri said. “When our city and school district come together, we create opportunities beyond the classroom. Seeing our students recognized on a City Council stage is incredibly meaningful and highlights both our strong partnership and their limitless potential.”

The success of the program is also made possible through the support of the Beverly Hills High School Career Academy and College and Career Center, which connect students with meaningful, real-world opportunities that extend learning beyond the classroom and into the community.

The internship program stands as a model for civic engagement, offering students direct exposure to how local government functions while empowering them to play an active role in shaping their community. By connecting education with public service, BHUSD and the city of Beverly Hills are preparing students for the future while developing the next generation of leaders.
