The Los Angeles Police Department was recently awarded a $6.4 million grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety to support ongoing enforcement and education programs that reduce serious injuries and deaths on public roads.
“This funding will enhance our dedication and commitment to public safety in our community,” said Capt. Yvonne Ortiz, commanding officer of the LAPD’s Traffic Coordination Division.
The grant will provide additional resources for DUI checkpoints and patrols, operations focusing on cell phone use while driving and programs promoting bicycle and pedestrian safety.
