The Beverly Hills Police Department is conducting a St. Patrick’s Day sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint on Tuesday, March 17, from 6-11 p.m. at North Santa Monica Boulevard and Crescent Drive.
All traffic will pass through the checkpoint and motorists will be contacted by uniformed officers checking for alcohol and drug-impairment. Officers will also check to ensure that all motorists have a valid driver’s license.
“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” BHPD Chief Mark Stainbrook said. “Any preventative measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improve traffic safety.”
The BHPD reminds the public that impaired driving is not just caused by alcohol. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. While marijuana and cannabis products are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal. Drivers convicted of a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties.
