Lucia offers hurricane relief to Jamaica
Since debuting in the heart of Los Angeles’ vibrant Fairfax District, Lucia has become an Afro-Caribbean dining sensation. As the only restaurant in the city to offer modern Caribbean cuisine in a luxurious setting, Lucia – meaning “light” – illuminates Angelenos with the bold flavors, rich heritage, and diversity of the Caribbean islands.
The Caribbean is where founder Sam Jordan and the team pull their inspiration from, so on Sunday, Nov. 9, Lucia will match 100% of all proceeds from sales and donate the total to American Friends of Jamaica and World Central Kitchen to support Hurricane Melissa relief efforts across the Caribbean.
The kitchen is now open until midnight every Wednesday-Sunday to satisfy those late-night coconut fried chicken and Trini mac pie cravings.
New, seasonal dishes have been added to Lucia’s menu to reflect those cozy fall ingredients found at Southern California’s farmers markets. Highlights include shareable plates, like a smoked beef short rib with black pepper-pimento glaze, served with grilled scallion roti and house-made pikliz, a 36-ounce dry-aged tomahawk steak with jerk spiced jus ad toum and Guyanese lobster “chow mein” featuring a whole grilled lobster with peppers, onions and shallot sauce. Lighter, raw bar items have also been added, like a bright Blue Fin Tuna Tartare with dukkah, dates, preserved lemon and cassava chips or a silky scallop crudo with coconut leche, avocado, shallot and serrano peppers. The lychee margarita continues to be a guest favorite, but don’t miss out on the oxtail old fashioned – it’s perfect for this chillier weather, with oxtail-washed bourbon, sweet potato, sugar cane and creole and angostura bitters.
For information, visit luciala. com. Lucia is located at 351 N. Fairfax Ave.
