The American Cinematheque has announced that Ben Affleck, Mahershala Ali, Ryan Coogler, Bradley Cooper, Daniel Kaluuya, Delroy Lindo, Phylicia Rashad, Octavia Spencer, Tessa Thompson and Irwin Winkler will take the stage as presenters at the 39th American Cinematheque Awards to celebrate Michael B. Jordan as he receives the American Cinematheque Award.
Donna Langley will present the Motion Picture Association’s Charles H. Rivkin with The Power of Cinema Award, presented by Hill Valley. The show will also feature a special musical performance by Miles Caton, Ludwig Göransson and Raphael Saadiq, presenting “I Lied to You” from the critically acclaimed film “Sinners.” Jordan’s special honor comes on the heels of his career-defining performance as twin brothers Smoke and Stack in Ryan Coogler’s critical and box office phenomenon “Sinners” earlier this year. The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, Nov. 20, at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. The event is an annual fundraiser for the American Cinematheque, a nonprofit that holds year-round programming at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica, Los Feliz Theatre in Los Feliz and Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.
The Power of Cinema Award honors an individual or organization whose actions through storytelling have advanced the significance and social relevance of film in modern culture. Previous award honorees include Charles Roven, Kevin Goetz and Screen Engine, Jason Blum and Blumhouse, Adam Aron and AMC Theatres, Sue Kroll and Jeffrey Katzenberg.
