Two suspects accused of murdering an 84-year-old man in June during a burglary at his Hancock Park home are scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, Sept. 24.

Rolando Guardado, 41, and Madeline Fresia Rivas, 45, are jointly charged with murder with the special allegation that the homicide occurred during the commission of a crime, as well as residential robbery and burglary. Rivas is also charged with being an accessory to a crime.

Guardado and Rivas are accused of stabbing longtime Hancock Park resident Gary Nelson on June 11 at his home in the 100 block of North Rossmore Ave. Police tracked the couple to their residence in Palmdale, where an LAPD SWAT team took them into custody. Authorities said they recovered a knife believed to be the murder weapon at the residence. A vehicle the couple used was also seized as evidence, police said.

Guardado and Rivas are scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 24 at 8:30 a.m. in Dept. 37 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center, downtown.
