Activists demonstrated at La Cienega and Beverly boulevards in support of reproductive rights in this photograph from Aug. 4, 1994. The protest was held in response to the murder of a doctor and volunteer that year at a reproductive health clinic in Pensacola, Florida. A candlelight vigil was held after the protest, which was organized by members of the National Organization for Women, Planned Parenthood, Stonewall Democratic Club and the Gay and Lesbian Community Services Center in West Hollywood. On the same day as the demonstration, the West Hollywood City Council adjourned its meeting in memory of Dr. John Britton and volunteer escort James Barrett, who were murdered by an anti-abortion extremist in Florida.
