Los Angeles Police Department detectives arrested two suspects for homicide on June 11 in Hancock Park.
Investigators believe the suspects were burglarizing the victim’s residence in the 100 block of North Rossmore Avenue when the homeowner came home around 3:50 p.m. and confronted them. The suspects stabbed the victim, Gary Nelson, 84, who was later pronounced dead at the scene. An LAPD spokesperson said police received a 911 call about an injured man at the residence but did not identify who called them. Officers from the Wilshire Division arrived and found Nelson unresponsive, suffering from a severe laceration.
Detectives with the LAPD’s West Bureau Homicide Unit conducted an exhaustive investigation and identified the two suspects, Rolando Guardado, 41, and Madeline Fresia Rivas, 45. The FBI-LAPD Fugitive Task Force located the suspects on June 12 at a residence in Palmdale. An LAPD SWAT team converged on the residence and took both suspects into custody. Police said a weapon was recovered but did not specify what it was. The investigation is ongoing, and detectives are trying to determine if there is a connection between the victim and the suspects, police said.
Guardado and Rivas were booked for murder and are being held without bail. The case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for the filing of murder charges.
Anyone with information about the crime is urged to call detectives at the West Bureau Homicide Unit at (213)382-9470.
