The Ebell is partnering with Look What SHE Did!, a nonprofit highlighting stories of women who changed the world, to showcase a series of shorts honoring LGBTQ+ trailblazers, visionaries and cultural icons on Sunday, June 22, at 1 p.m. in the Wilshire Ebell Theatre.

The celebration starts with “Short Film Series: Foundations of Queer, Feminist and Creative Resistance” from 1-2 p.m. It includes Madin Lopez on Octavia Butler, a poetic tribute to the visionary science fiction writer whose prophetic voice reshaped the boundaries of genre, race and gender; Ellen Gavin on Ruth and Jean Mountaingrove, a tender portrait of two lesbian feminist artists whose love and photography documented and inspired the radical women’s movement; Karla Legaspy on Gloria Anzaldúa, an intimate exploration of the groundbreaking Chicana queer theorist who redefined identity, borders and belonging through language and spirit; and Bri Giger on Marsha P. Johnson, an homage to the revolutionary trans activist who helped ignite the Stonewall uprising and demanded justice with joy and resilience.

At 2 p.m., the program features “Jackie’s Back.” From erasure to excess, the satirical cult classic explores celebrity, reinvention and the fierce hunger to be seen. Enjoy “Cabaret” at 4 p.m. Set in a world teetering on the edge, the iconic musical revels in glamor, danger and defiance – a dazzling ode to performance as protest.
