West Hollywood will celebrate the rich traditions brought to the United States by Russian-speaking immigrants from the former Soviet Union in May.
The city will host the annual Victory in Europe Day commemoration on Sunday, May 4, at noon at Fiesta Hall in Plummer Park, 7377 Santa Monica Blvd. The remembrance event marks the defeat of the Nazis and honors the estimated 50 million lives lost during World War II.
On Saturday, May 10, the city will host the 19th annual Russian-Speaking Community Awards Ceremony and Classical Night Concert. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the ceremony begins at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, 625 N. San Vicente Blvd. The 24th annual WeHo Mishka Festival is planned on Sunday, May 18, from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. at Plummer Park. The family-friendly outdoor event showcases music, food, dance and storytelling traditions.
Approximately 11% of West Hollywood’s residents identify a former region of the Soviet Union as their primary ancestry. For information, call (323)848-6501, or email wehorusevents@weho.org.
