Deputies with the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station shot and injured a male domestic violence suspect on March 29 near La Brea Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard.

Authorities received a call from the assault victim shortly before 6 p.m. and responded to the 7100 block of Santa Monica Blvd., near the La Brea Gateway shopping complex. While deputies were speaking to the victim, they saw the suspect near the intersection of La Brea Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard and attempted to detain the man. The suspect resisted and a physical altercation ensued, at which time the deputy-involved shooting occurred, authorities said.

The suspect, who was not identified, was struck once in the lower torso by a gunshot. He was treated at the scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics and taken to a hospital in stable condition.

No deputies or bystanders were injured during the incident. Portions of the shopping complex and areas around the intersection were closed during the investigation. Detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau responded to the scene and are conducting the investigation, which is standard procedure with shootings that involve deputies. No further information was available.
