A male suspect has been charged with vehicular manslaughter for a March 31 collision on Highland Avenue in Hancock Park that claimed the life of a 19-year-old woman and injured four other teens, authorities said.

Police said the driver, who fled the scene of the collision and remains at large, is a resident of France who was illegally in the country at the time of the crash. Los Angeles Police Department investigators are not certain whether he is still in the United States and are working with federal authorities to locate the man.

Authorities have not released the suspect’s name due to the ongoing investigation and have released few details about him. Detective David Holmes, with the LAPD’s West Traffic Division, said the suspect is in his 30s and had been in the United States for at least two years.

“We have an ID on who he is. He’s a French national who had overstayed his visa from 2023. We have information that he may have fled the country,” Holmes added. “The case has been filed [by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office]. It’s a complicated case, he is not a U.S. citizen. We are working with our federal counterparts and trying to capture him.”

LAPD investigators allege the man was behind the wheel of a Lamborghini SUV on March 31 that was traveling north on Highland Avenue at a high speed. The Lamborghini collided with a Toyota RAV 4 at approximately 1:30 a.m. at Highland Avenue and First Street. The Lamborghini’s driver and a female passenger fled the scene, but the female passenger returned a short time later and cooperated with police. Authorities did not release any further information about the passenger.

The Toyota was occupied by two men and two women ages 18-19, and a female minor, Holmes said. Yobil Ann Cueto, 19, died in the collision. The other teens were hospitalized and are recovering.

A Go Fund Me account has been established for Cueto at gofundme.com/f/yobil-ann-coloma-cueto-memorial-fund. It had raised $5,155 as of April 30.
