Re “BHPD cautions drivers to avoid distractions,” April 10 issue

As someone who almost got hit by a car while walking through an intersection, I can vouch for the importance of this caution. There was no way the driver could say – if paying proper attention – he or she did not see me, as I waited for some time for the light to change, as did they.

When finally the “WALK” sign lit, I did so and the car opposite me proceeded into the intersection. Only they continued making their left turn and were now 15 feet away and heading right for me. Had I not quickly stopped and yelled out, I might not be writing this.

I have little doubt the car’s darkly tinted windows served their intended purpose of allowing the owner to fire off important texts like, “But I hate rhubarb,” without anyone noticing while at the same time making left turns in Los Angeles.
