Los Angeles county celebrated its 150th anniversary with a Parade of Nations down Wilshire Boulevard in the Miracle Mile in this photograph in the Feb. 24, 2000, issue of the Beverly Press and Park Labrea News. Founded in 1850, Los Angeles was one of California’s original 27 counties. The Parade of Nations capped a three-day festival in which county museums such as LACMA and the La Brea Tar Pits offered free admission, and the sheriff’s department and fire stations held open houses. The parade on Wilshire Boulevard, which celebrated the county’s diversity, featured 3,500 people representing more than 50 nations.
