The Los Angeles County Museum of Art hosted a field trip on Jan. 29 for the L.A. County Park Care Camp, welcoming more than 300 children and camp staff.
An initiative of the L.A. County Parks and Recreation Department, the camps were created in response to the recent wildfires and offer a supportive space for children and teens affected by the Eaton fire.
The children arrived on nine buses and were divided into small groups before participating in a variety of activities around the museum campus. The museum’s education team designed special mindfulness activities to foster emotional awareness and promote wellbeing through art. Campers explored LACMA’s outdoor public artworks including Chris Burden’s “Urban Light” and joined guided tours of exhibitions such as “We Live in Painting: The Nature of Color in Mesoamerican Art.” The event concluded with campers reflecting on their experiences through drawing, writing and conversations.
LACMA is located at 5905 Wilshire Blvd. For information, visit lacma.org.
