The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music and the Gramian-Emrani Center for Iranian Music present “Voices in Shadow: The Artistic Journey of Iranian Female Singers after the Revolution” on Feb. 5, at 6 p.m. in UCLA’s Lani Hall.

Iranian vocalists Malihe Moradi, Sahar Mohammadi Boroujerdi and Mahbobeh Golzari are featured in a panel discussion of the artistic and societal challenges faced by female Iranian singers. They will reflect on the challenges of preserving their craft and will demonstrate Persian singing techniques.

Moderated by Shahab Paranj, Gramian-Emrani postdoctoral fellow in music and director of the Iranian music ensemble at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, the panel fosters a deeper understanding of the artistic excellence and cultural barriers Iranian female singers have navigated. Organizers want to encourage dialogue and a broader appreciation of the singers’ contributions.
