Visit four exquisite homes built in the early 1900s during the Windsor Square-Hancock Park Historical Society’s “Merry Homes of Windsor Boulevard” tour on Saturday, Nov. 2, from noon-4 p.m.

Visitors can walk to the three homes open on Windsor Boulevard and head one block east to Lorraine Boulevard to see an estate referred to as the Western White House because it has played host to numerous presidents.

Windsor Square dates to 1885 when the Windsor Square Land Co. purchased 200 acres of the Plummer Homestead. The company purchased the land in 1885 for $400 an acre and sold it in 1911 for $5,000 an acre, for a total of $1 million. The original portion of the Windsor Square tract was bounded by Third Street and Irving, Plymouth and Wilshire boulevards. It featured wide parkways and ornamental streetlights with the trademark “W/S” at the base. All of the streets in the tract were paved and utilities were placed underground.

Tickets for the “Merry Homes of Windsor Boulevard” tour are $75 for members, $95 for non-members and can be purchased at 355 S. Windsor Blvd. on the day of the event and in advance at wshphs.com.
