The seventh annual Animation Is Film Festival presents theatrical presentations, special events and shorts showcases from Oct. 18-20 at the TCL Chinese Theatres in Hollywood.
The festival’s opening night is on Friday, Oct. 18, featuring the North American premiere of Japanese director Naoko Yamada’s “The Colors Within.” On Saturday, Oct. 19, the North American premiere of Warner Bros. Animation’s “The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie” from director Pete Browngardt will be held. AIF closes on Sunday, Oct. 20, with the Los Angeles premiere of IFC Films’ “Memoir of a Snail” from director Adam Elliot, who won the 2024 Cristal Award at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, AIF’s co-founder.
Through its competition section, AIF continues to champion animation as a cinematic art form while recognizing and acknowledging the importance of international feature films and short films. The festival’s schedule includes films that have debuted internationally at the Cannes, Annecy, Tribeca, San Sebastian, Telluride and Toronto film festivals. Highlights include many North American and Los Angeles premieres. Animation Is Film is also celebrating the 15th anniversary of the seminal anime film “Redline” with a special screening. Panels and masterclasses will be held for high-profile studio releases such as “Inside Out 2,” “Moana 2,” “Transformers One,” “The Wild Robot” and “An Almost Christmas Story.”
“Animation Is Film is very happy to be back in Los Angeles, celebrating another year of extraordinary titles from some of cinema’s greatest international artists,” AIF director Matt Kaszanek said. “To be among the first in a city, the country or even a continent to see a new work of art is a unique thrill. We are immensely proud of this year’s lineup.”
