The city of Beverly Hills Community Services Department invites readers to The Great Outdoors at Greystone on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m., at Greystone Mansion and Gardens, located at 905 Loma Vista Drive. Guests will have an opportunity to interact with the natural beaty of Greystone’s green space through various experiences planned for the day.
Greystone was dedicated as a city of Beverly Hills park just over 50 years ago in September of 1971. September also marks the month the Doheny family moved into their home in 1928. Since the city acquired the estate, it has been a great place just minutes away from the busyness of the city where people arrive to rest and relax while taking in the natural splendor of the 18 acres of green space.
In celebration of the treasured gem of Greystone and its 53rd anniversary as a public park, The Great Outdoors at Greystone Celebration of Nature will honor healthy living – physically, mentally, soulfully and creatively – with an array of activities for everyone.
Planned activities include: have a personal poem written. Visit the courtyard between 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and request a personalized, custom poem; Wander among the cypress trees, transformed into Poetry Lane, and read winning submissions; Bring a seedling home. Visit the demonstration garden and learn about the classes and volunteer opportunities year-round; Use nature to make art. Visit the willow pond between noon-3 p.m. to make a cyanotype; Show your love of nature and get your face painted from noon-4 p.m.; Take a deep breath by the reflection pond and listen to guitar music on the terrace between 3-4 p.m.; Bring a notebook and sketch the visions of nature, write a poem, or make a list of plants for your garden; Complete the scavenger hunt, bring the answers to the welcome table in the parking lot, and receive a prize. The seedling and art project are offered while supplies last.
Visitors are encouraged to bring their nature journal and walking shoes and enjoy the tranquil retreat of the grounds of Greystone.
The event is free and no advanced registration is required.
