The Beverly Hills Human Relations Commission and Beverly Hills Unified School District teamed up once again for another successful summer reading event, Beverly Hills Reads, at El Rodeo Elementary School. This year’s book was “We Were the Lucky Ones” by Georgia Hunter.

“We Were the Lucky Ones” tells the emotional story of a Polish family – two parents, five children and others – and their experiences during the horrors of the Nazi regime.

Hunter shared insights into the nine years she spent researching and documenting her family’s story and its historical context. “We Were the Lucky Ones” incorporates many significant historical events through the family’s struggles, with beautifully detailed settings and action-packed scenes. It was also adapted into a Hulu series starring Beverly Hills High School alum Logan Lerman.
