Metro Art-commissioned artist Ken Gonzales-Day and Los Angeles County Museum of Art curators Eve Schillo and Rita Gonzalez discuss the artist’s work on Tuesday, Aug. 20, from 7-8 p.m. at the museum.

Gonzales-Day’s artwork “Urban Excavation: Ancestors, Avatars, Bodhisattvas, Buddhas, Casts, Copies, Deities, Figures, Funerary Objects, Gods, Guardians, Mermaids, Metaphors, Mothers, Possessions, Sages, Spirits, Symbols, and Other Objects” will be on display in the Wilshire/Fairfax subway station on the D Line Extension.

The site-specific installation draws inspiration from LACMA’s extensive permanent collection. Schillo is associate curator of the Wallis Annenberg Photography Department, and Gonzalez is the Terri and Michael Smooke Curator and Department Head of Contemporary Art for LACMA. Learn about the collaborative relationship between GonzalesDay, LACMA and Metro in creating the new public artwork for the Los Angeles County transit system.
