The Los Angeles County Department of Youth Development announced on July 10 the launch of regional Youth Development Networks.

Youth development helps young people develop the skills, knowledge and support they need to reach their full potential, navigate challenges and contribute positively to their communities. According to the department, when a young person has access to youth development resources in their community, they are more likely to do well in school, avoid justice system involvement and develop life skills that set them up for success in adulthood.

Youth Development Networks are designed to create an ecosystem of resources for young people where they live so they can thrive and contribute positively to their communities. This support goes beyond academics to encompass socio-emotional well-being, personal growth and career readiness.

DYD’s initial investments in 34 community-based organizations in the Antelope Valley, East Los Angeles, Long Beach, the San Fernando Valley and South Central Los Angeles are the building blocks for a comprehensive system of care that nurtures the potential of youth in Los Angeles County.
