The American Red Cross is facing a critical blood shortage and is urging donors to give blood or platelets to reinforce the blood supply as much as possible before the end of summer. Type O blood donors and those giving platelets are especially needed to help keep hospitals stocked through August.

The Red Cross’ blood products are in demand around-the-clock as hospitals work to save lives. When fewer people donate, the blood supply is quickly diminished. Those who donate from Aug. 1-31 will receive a $20 amazon.com gift card via email.
