Carry on the legacy of the late Los Angeles City Councilman Tom LaBonge at the annual LaBonge Summer Solstice Sunset Hike on Friday, June 21.

Hikers will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Charlie Turner Trailhead, 2840 W. Observatory Road., and head to the Tom LaBonge Panorama at Mt. Hollywood. LaBonge’s wife Brigid and the LaBonge family invite people to enjoy an evening of “frivolity and friendship” as they welcome the first day of summer. Sunset will be at 8:08 p.m.

“It’s definitely a way to carry on the legacy of something Tom started 40 years ago. It’s a good opportunity to be outdoors and enjoy the city, just as Tom intended,” Brigid LaBonge said.

LaBonge, who died in January 2021, was a longtime supporter of Griffith Park and led an annual summer solstice hike in the park. Parking is limited near the trailhead, and hikers are encouraged to use ride-hailing services or park at the Greek Theatre and take a DASH bus to the Griffith Observatory.
